Ultimate Blog Hop!

Hello one and all! If this is your first time visiting the ole' Jonesie then please let me explain a little. I write on a variety of topics. (basically whatever may pop into my head or even whatever rant I have for the day.) Some things are a little out there, I admit. But honestly, I have spent so much of my life worrying about what others think that when I finally released myself from the "rules and roles of society" I really began to find myself. So, my request is that you read more than just one post before you decide. I promise somewhere along the way I am sure you will say what so many others have said at one time or another: Jonesie, you simply say what others only think in their heads!

Fiesta & what I love/hate about it! (Part 1 of 3)

First of all I am not originally from San Antonio. So, I know that I have not been born with the fiesta gene pouring through my veins. I realize that causes a problem right out of the running gate because come April every year those born in San Antonio with the all powerful fiesta gene lose their ever loving minds!

By now, if you are one of those San Antonio born fiesta freaks, you are probably sending me death rays via the your pounding headache waves that you have as a result from partying entirely way too much. (haha! I'm sorry but this is funny because you most likely are on your way to work this morning feeling all wonderful like and here I sit in my Pjs drinking my coffee and preparing for a day of work from home! Don't hate me because I'm resourceful!)

But don't hate me too quickly!  I say this because it is I (and a group of about 50 other parents and boy scouts) that work our asses off to set up an entire city block for you party fiesta freaks to enjoy this mayhem!

Without people like us you wouldn't be able to sit in a nice hard comfy chair while you saw ridiculous fantastic things such as this:

and this:
Now there were a few cool things like this:
And of course if you are an old car buff
like the hubs then you would like this:
 and this:

And then there is always the one thing that makes you
scratch your head and wonder what were they thinking?
Yes, that is a purple poodle! Being in my
"Boy Scout Role" I was NOTdrinking that day!

Fiesta & what I love/hate about it! (Part 2 of 3)

Having been a productive citizen of San Antonio since 2004 I think I am ok to tell you the things I love/hate about Fiesta.

Things I HATE and I do mean HATE!
4.)  No matter HOW much sunblock I use this is what I
end up looking like EVERY 'effing year!
(using that word just for you Loader Girl!):
3.) Those DAMN party horns.  I can't stand them!  I swear these
things are EVIL! Everyone that thinks they are cute or cool
should be forced to walk around for a day
with on stuffed right up their ass!

2.) I hate parents that get so flipping drunk or worse aren't
drunk and don't watch their bad ass bratty kids!

1.) I hate it even more when those parents of those above
mentioned bad ass bratty kids get pissed at me because
I yell at their kids to get out of the way of our guys carrying heavy
boards like this:
God forbid I keep I yelled at their little "angel" and kept
them from getting bashed in the head by a huge heavy board!

Fiesta & what I love/hate about it! (Part 3 of 3)

Well, I can't very well leave you with a sour impression of me regarding my views of Fiesta now can I? So, here it goes. Here at the things I love about Fiesta!

Things I LOVE and I do mean LOVE!
5.) I love the tradition! I mean come on 1891 to 2011?
That's some serious crazy partying going on! Who can't love that?

4.) The uniforms! Who can't just LOVE this? Air Force, Marines, Navy, Army,
I don't care! It can get the blood pumping pride in our country stirred up!
3.) The medals! OH MY GOSH! I love them!  Tradition in San Antonio
is to collect parade medals from anywhere! You can buy them from the Fiesta Store
or you can even catch them at the parade if you are lucky enough
for someone in the parade throws one to you!
As you can see people wear them and
build their collection for years!

I even started my own collection this year!
These are the ones I caught.

And this is the one Megan caught.

2.) The trains on the dresses of the Parade Ladies!
The saying is Royalty Reigns! And in these dresses I definitely agree!

Parade Fact: Fiesta is just now over as of yesterday and work
on the 2012 dresses has already begun!

1.) And finally??? My favorite of all favorite things about Fiesta?
SHOW US YOUR SHOES!
(You can also see a beautiful shot of another train!)

Tradition for years has been to scream SHOW US YOUR SHOES
as the floats pass by with the pretty Royalty Court ladies.
It is so fun to see what hides beneath those elegant gowns!

Slippers

Boot Scootin'

Boots!

Flip Flops!
This is MY personal favorite! Margarita Time Baby!

House Slippers seemed to be quite popular this year!

Even Tennis Shoes!
And so there you have it. My favorite things about Fiesta! Until 2012 my friends!

The Party's Over...but oh the surprises it brought!

Yes, the big event is finally over.  I planned it for months and it had so many surprises both planned and unplanned that I cannot possibly cover it all in one post.  So, be ready as I go through the pics and my emotions are triggered to read more about the FABOO party we had last Saturday night to document the hubs 50th birthday.

My friends....Thank you!

Officially, the party is over. The great my hubs if 50 party!  And boy was it a party!  Of course many of you know that the planning for this party began months ago and understand that I have an over abundant need to have every little detail perfect which can drive anyone batty! Ok, Ok, Ok, I admit I am OVERLY OCD to the point of pure madness!

Even with this acute illness which would drive most people screaming into the night I still do not understand why I have 3 FABULOUS friends who put up with me and are always at my side with every major event I load onto myself.
Through thick and thin they are always there doing whatever it takes to make it through.  Whether it's bringing/making food, decorating, watching my kids or whatever they are there! The last year or so of my life I have grown closer and closer to these ladies and honestly I can hardly mention them without feeling all icky mushy inside.

I was extra blessed for this party though because I had two extra hands, Toni and Cheryl on deck to assist me in my craziness! If only they lived closer they could be a permanent part of our crazy group!

Back Row L to R: Nancy, Malissa, Cheryl
Front Row L to R: Toni, Janet, Wendy

The calm before the storm

I sit here this morning drinking a cup of nice hot coffee and trying to get myself vamped up to go shower and start the day.  lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggg sigh

Today is the day for the BIG party, hubs 50th bday party.  I have been working on it for over 2 months now and the day is finally here.  There are people of all walks of life coming in from all over to converge in one room to hopefully have a calm, relaxed fun evening of remembering, laughing and catching up.

This is the first time since we moved to San Antonio 7 years ago that we are introducing so many of our friends, family etc in the same room.  I made the comment recently that it was like all aspects of our life were finally converging into one location.  Up until now we have unintentionally had these parts of our life separate.

This is the variety of invites for the party today:

  • Chuck's family
  • Some of my family
  • School friends
  • Scout acquaintances and friends
  • Railroad coworkers/friends
  • Chuck's music friends from back in the day
  • My friends from back in the day (two of which are now divorced)
  • San Antonio friends
  • My friends from back in my hometown
The list is pretty extensive and it will be a site to watch and see how this crowd works.  I wonder if this will become the melting pot of the Jones?  Till later............

Thursday news..........

Oh blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh............

I have just come in from Costco.  Good news is that the scrapbook pictures I sent to the photo lab are FABOO!  This is a scrapbook I am making of the 50 years of hubs life.  I thought it was such a WONDERFUL idea until about ohhhh pictures of 1977.  Now, I am only up to the 80's and I am TIRED!  While it is neat to see his family like this and learn about everyone and hear the stories I am TIRED!   Did I say TIRED?  Anyway, I only have a bit more to go and I will have a very cherished item that the rest of the family will wish they had!  HAHA!

I did get the cake ordered.  Costco are assholes about cakes though.  No scanning pictures/designs to put on the cake, only 2 cake flavor options and you have to choose from only a handful of designs.  By the time I got to the point of ordering the cake today I just said what the Fuckety Fuck and chose the sheet cake with the traditional happy birthday writing shit on it.  I just requested they keep the little 5 year old balloons off of it.  We will see.  It will get eaten either way right?  Plus, what the fuck do I care when I won't eat it anyway?  I will have my special delicious dainty gluten free cupcakes from my special bakery!

Ohhhh this is the countdown.  M-in-Law arrives tomorrow along with about 50 other peeps coming in for the party.  No the party is not at my house but somehow there will be people seeing my house.  Why do I care what my house looks like?  Well, for one we are bred from a young age that our house must be neat and tidy and the condition of our house tells what type of wife, mother, woman we are.  Well, SHIT this is hard!  I have been on my hands and knees cleaning the floor, under the stove, behind the toilet and more.  Will my M-in-Law really care what it looks like?  No, she probably won't.  She isn't really a mean person at all.  I mean over the years I have gotten used to the quirkiness and I think, hope pray she has gotten used to mine. In fact I think I have a fairly good M-in-Law.  Now, that she realizes I am not here to use and abuse her son for his money and I do truly love him (YIKES! Did I admit that?? LOL) I think we have an OK relationship.

I am just over thinking it all and letting my OCD take over.  I know in the end the party will be great, people will laugh, and there will be plenty more pictures to add to the growing scrapbook.
